whoot! I just woke up at a glorious 10am as opposed to my normal 7am. Got to love random saint holidays! Now this is not a holiday for all japan, just sophia, I think. It is the day of the saint that the campus church is named after.
It is so weird to be reminded that this is a catholic school. I mean we never hear any sermons or hymns or anything. You occasionally see a nun or a priest, and while it freaks you out at first, you get used to it. That might be my big take away from this. It is amazing what you can get used to. The human race is very adaptable. Not saying that my choice to live in Japan for a year is a major hardship that I have to overcome or anything. Just makes me think. :)
So I had my kanji midterm and I wanted to just hid in a corner and die. It was awful! I hope I passed it. It was only like 7% of my total japanese grade but still. we had to know how to read and write over 400 compounds. And not just that! The teacher would give us two kanji and asked us to group two more with them. And the kanji weren't just grouped by radical. It could be that they had the same On or Kun reading. It could be that they were all found in i-adjectives. Harsh! I am telling you. This school really stresses kanji, more so that UW.
So, because today is a holiday and I had been sick all weekend, I went out last night. Met up with Justin, Clayton, and some of clayton's japanese friends and went to Dragons. (had to wait and that was the impetus for my facebook status :P)Dragons is the gay club in nichome where Aaron (a kid from school) works. Sophia states that you can't work at bars but a surprising number of exchange students do! They just keep it under they table so to speak. They don't even get a work visa!
It was fun! Aaron is a clueless bartender. :) He didn't know what was in a cosmo. He didn't know which drinks get lime and which get lemon. He didn't know how to make a dirty martini or what a martini glass looks like. Seriously. But he is a cutie and the clientele like him. :) He showed me pics of his malaysian boyfriend. DAMN! That guy is huge! He is bodybuilder. One of the scary ones! But Aaron likes him. Also, Aaron told us he got a call back from a modeling agency in japan. I told him if he got a print campaign he had to tell me because I would so pick it up. Wouldn't it be neat to be able to say I know/knew this model? :)
Other than that I got to watch Clayton try to learn a parapara (odd japanese dance style) to a perfume song. Interesting. :) And I got to catch up with Justin, who I hadn't see in a week or so.
Went home by last train so that was pretty much it. Sorry, brandt no strippers. Oh, but aaron's boss keep sliding up his shirt and showing of his abs (aaron works out all the time so he is super fit but not crazy huge like his boy). Sesuharu! aka the japanese work for sexual harassment. :) Good times people, good times.
